CHINA
After a 6.6M earthquake struck Gansu Province near Dingxi city on 22 July, at least 95 people were killed and more than 1,400 injured according to Government reports. The situation has been exacerbated by heavy rain since 24 July affecting more than 440,000 people in the province, with 39,500 people relocated and 15,600 houses severely damaged; and triggering floods and landslides leaving 21 people dead and 5 missing in Tianshui City. More heavy rain is expected. An emergency response has been launched by the Central Government and US$1.65m allotted for disaster relief.

DPR KOREA
Exceptionally heavy seasonal rainfall has resulted in flooding in many areas of the country, with 46,000 made homeless, mostly in North and South Pyongan provinces. On 21 July, Anju City in South Pyongan was 80% flooded. Government reports indicate more than 11,000 buildings are damaged and 10,000 hectares of farmland affected.

INDIA
Heavy rain in northern Andhra Pradesh and eastern Maharashtra states has caused flooding, with 300 villages inundated and 20,000 people evacuated in Andhra Pradesh, and reports of 23 deaths in Nagpur division of Maharashtra and continuing loss of crops.

LAO PDR
There are now over 27,000 reported cases of dengue fever in all provinces, which has to date caused 74 reported deaths. Provinces in the far northwest, centre and far south of the country are worst affected. WHO is working closely with MPH to monitor and response to the epidemic, which is expected to continue during the rainy season.

Heavy rain has resulted in further floods in several regions, including a collapsed dam in Maluku Tengah causing 1 death and affecting more than 5,000; flooding in Gorontalo province causing 4 deaths and affecting 600; and flooding in Bandarlampung with 200 houses inundated.

Heavy rain across China is continuing to cause several incidents besides those affecting Gansu Province, including a landslide on 27 July in Yongshan County of Yunnan Province with 12 people missing; 6 people buried after a landslide on 28 July in Dalian Province, north-east China; and 10,000 people affected by floods in Inner MongoliaAutonomous Region.
